being dive bombed

How was my day, my life brilliant today?

Honestly – I don’t think days could be more brilliant.  I feel that I have a salt crust on my body, a little sandy between my toes, more than a little sticky from the hottest day of the year in the UK.

An early walk along Porthilly Beach to Daymer Bay, which is my most favourite way to start the day, followed by a morning of client conversations followed by speedy lunches before an afternoon of chaperoning teens to a variety of sporting activities – surfing, tennis, wakeboarding.

I caught an hour sunbathing on the beach putting the worlds to rights with another Mum of teen boys and realising we all worry about the same thing, have the same current concerns, fears for the future.

It’s always good to talk.

The only missing piece in the ‘bedroom’ is Morts in person..

(While I think he may like me / us to feel sorry for him missing out on the extended stay in Rock. I don’t. I think he has had a pretty good run of fun and holidays while we were at school or at work! )

But I do miss him, him being here.. His presence is sometimes overpowering, but his sense of fun & adventure is always welcome.

All the other bedrooms are full of teens, some ours, some other people’s – just as it should be.  Kids having fun, safe in a bed in a safe home. I actually quite like waking up to wonder who will be joining us for eggs and bacon.

Tonight Tom is out, so I am grateful to the network of mum’s and friends where there seems to be this unspoken code of care for all teenagers stretching their independence.

I feel a little too lightheaded from a couple of glasses of the Sailing Club’s finest rosé (with probably more ice than wine!) and perhaps too much sun – although I did wear a hat all day (sunstroke is a thing in our family…) to keep writing..

But 2 other moments I want to remember –

We were dive bombed in the estuary by a Lockheed C-130 Hercules (I didn’t know that at the time – I just posted a photo in to AI)… Massive 4 plane with 4 engines that flew up the estuary from Wadebridge; we hadn’t heard it coming over the noise of the engine, and it was suddenly right above us!

side note - this is such a good ‘note to self’ moment. What noise am I currently creating in my life that is drowning out what else is really going on? Good question for me to ponder on tomorrow’s walk - what sh*t talk is going on in my head that is drowning out a dive bomber of an idea or truth?

We were dive bombed incessantly by a swarm of recently hatched flying ants at Fish and Chip night in the Sailing Club. I don’t think this would have impressed some of the non locals who are referring to this iconic landmark of the estuary as ‘the Yacht Club’ (made me howl with laughter today when I heard it…) ‘see you at the Yacht Club’ I heard them say making it sound like we are at the hamptons!

And on that note… time to sleep. From my airless bedroom, to yours… this is your reminder to be brilliant in the boardroom, the bedroom & in your body.

Love always

Dog barking.  Tom is home.  Apparently some lovely 50 year olds (!) saw him thumbing a life at the top of Polzeath hill and brought him home in their landy – which he went on to describe in great detail telling me we should buy one as it was great fun.  I do love teens.

What you won’t find with Ali is she won’t just collude with you if she doesn’t agree, in your thoughts/processes, which is something i love!!
